Cognitive Hypnotherapy is so successful at helping people lose weight because unlike any other species on this planet we human beings have attached an emotional reward to food. All other creatures will eat until they are full then wait until the hunger returns to go and hunt or forage again to satisfy their needs.
This is because other creatures do not eat emotionally. This means that the reason why so many people in the world are overweight is because as a species we have learned to use food as a way to change how we feel about things all around us.
All clients of The Clerkenwell Group who come to see us with weight problems eat when they are bored, feeling lonely or sad, or as the result of some other emotional problem. None of these reasons has anything at all to do with feeling hunger. In our modern society where we no longer have the need to hunt or forage we can use food as a quick fix or as a reward to feel good. Unfortunately this is only a short-term emotional fix and no amount of eating is going to change our feelings in the long run. In fact it is going to cause weight problems, which is only going to make us feel worse about our feelings.
A lot of people at this point will turn to dieting and some may be temporarily be successful at losing a few pounds, but as soon as the diet is over people tend to return to old eating habits as we humans enjoy living our lives with recognisable patterns in them (this is the way the human brain works). Unfortunately this tends to lead to a cycle of gaining more weight, followed by dieting, and never achieving the result that is desired.
