Hypnotherapy for Panic Attacks in London

Panic attacks can feel overwhelming. Many of the people who contact us describe a sudden surge of fear or discomfort that seems to arrive without warning. Some tell us they feel as though they are having a heart attack, while others describe dizziness, trembling, difficulty catching their breath, chest tightness or a feeling that they may lose control.

Although the experience can be frightening, many people have already been medically assessed before they come to see us and are looking for additional psychological support to help them understand and manage what they have been experiencing

What We Often See in Practice while Hypnotherapy for Panic Attacks

How Cognitive Hypnotherapy May Help

At our practice, we use Cognitive Hypnotherapy, an approach that combines hypnosis with evidence-informed psychological models. Rather than following exactly the same programme for everyone, we aim to understand the individual sitting in front of us and tailor therapy to their particular experiences, goals and circumstances.

Depending on the individual, sessions may involve:

Exploring possible triggers that could be contributing to panic

Identifying patterns of thinking, emotion and behaviour that may be maintaining the problem

Developing practical strategies that may help reduce feelings of overwhelm

Using hypnosis to encourage calmer and more helpful responses
Building confidence in situations that have become difficult
Reducing the fear of future panic attacks

Encouraging new ways of responding to anxious thoughts and physical sensations.

Many people describe panic as a cycle where the fear of the symptoms can sometimes become almost as distressing as the symptoms themselves. One area we may work on is helping clients develop a different relationship with those sensations so they may feel less intimidating over time.

    Every Person's Experience Is Different

There is no single cause of panic attacks. For some people they may be linked with prolonged stress or anxiety, while for others they might appear following a specific event or without any obvious explanation.

For this reason, we believe it is important not to make assumptions. We take time to understand your own experiences, what has been happening in your life and what you would like to achieve from therapy before discussing the approaches that may be appropriate for you.

“My experience with Gordon has been nothing short of transformational. Over the course of a single session, Gordon has provided me with practical, applicable tools for addressing my long-standing issues. By the third session, he not only helped me identify the root causes, he also enabled me to change my internal dialogue and my outlook on life.

Having previously gone through multiple rounds of CBT and other forms of therapy, hypnotherapy as practiced by Gordon has been the single most effective way of getting rid of counterproductive thinking and behavioural patterns.

If you are willing to do the work, to apply the tools and to internalise the insights that hypnotherapy provides, the results will be life-changing.”

“I can’t recommend Jen enough. I was in a dark place and would have tried anything but found Jen online and thank God I did. I still can’t fully understand what happened, but it has blown my mind. My depression and anxiety levels have decreased dramatically. I am still working on processing everything that came up for me, but it has really really helped me figure some things out and I have good tools to help me on my journey.”

My sessions with Darren have been great. I found the meetings informative and interesting. Darren explained that we routinely, as humans, can sometimes get in our way – self-sabotaging and going towards what we don’t want! There is always another way to think act and behave! Sometimes though you need a professional to see that.

“I’ve struggled with crippling anxiety for as long as I can remember. I didn’t get a diagnosis until my late teens, and everything started to make sense partnered with my other challenges. I have spent almost half my life trying different treatments and lifestyle changes to try and gain control of my brain. It took Jen four sessions to change my world. I was sceptical as I honestly believed that I was just built this way. My anxiety is the lowest it has ever been. When I feel it starting to increase, I can quickly use the tools that Jen armed me with, and I am back in control. Cannot recommend Jen enough.”
